The mild winter of 2008 had brought an early sprouting of the vines and consequently a very long maturation season. The high temperatures in the spring and later in July made the grapes turn red ahead of time, but luckily an unexpected cool August balanced the maturation process, and in the end the harvest took place only a few days early. The harvest of our healthy and perfectly ripened Merlot grapes started on September 10th; after 10 more days the Sangiovese was also ready, with a remarkable combination of high quality and good quantity. All the grapes destinated to the Riserva Monna Lisa are strictly hand-selected and usually come from our best vineyards, where the southwest exposure, the potential alcohol content of at least 14% and the deeper and more intense ruby red color, will possibly give us the best results. The maceration and fermentation lasted 18 days. After undergoing malolactic fermentation, the wine has aged in wood for 16 months, partly in French oak barriques and partly in medium size barrels. The final blend for Chianti Classico Riserva Monna Lisa 2007 was 80% Sanviovese and 20% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was bottled in June 2010, with a final total quantity of 31.000 bottles.
